Non-Surgical Brow Lift

By Dr. James White

Eyebrows are one of the most underrated, overlooked features of the human face. They can not be taken lightly as they serve as frames to the windows of the soul (our eyes), ultimately having a major impact on facial balance. Whether thin and arched or thick and bold, brows can erase years from your face or, worse case scenario, make you look older than you wish. They can showcase beautiful eyes or over power them.

While eyebrow trends are forever changing, one thing is for sure….droopy eyebrows are unflattering on anyone. Unfortunately, with age and loss of collagen, many individuals will begin to notice a difference in the shape of their brow as early as their thirties. This sagging of the brow can cause the eye to appear smaller than it is. Genetics play a big role in the amount of dropping and the age of onset.

For many, brow lift surgery is an effective way to add lift and youth to the brows and unveil the eyes that were once camouflaged by excess skin. However, many are not ready to commit to the cost, permanence and downtime of a surgical lift. For those not willing to commit to brow lift surgery, neuromodulators like Botox, Dysport or Xeomin may prove to be an ideal stop gap alternative.

Botox Brow Lift: How does it work?

Certain muscles on our face can age us by forcing a downward tug of the tissue (ex. corners of the mouth responsible for frowning or the outer portion of the brows responsible for squinting). A skilled injector can temporarily weaken the muscles specifically responsible for downward force , allowing the muscles responsible for upward pull to take charge and lift drooping tissue. A chemical brow lift.

In the case of eyebrows, the muscles in the outer corner of the brow can pull down the brow while muscles in the forehead can lift and arch the brow. Therefore, to achieve a more arched, lifted brow, injections need to be placed in the outward portion of the eyebrows so that the forehead muscles remain untouched, allowing them to take over and lift the brow. Just like any other neuromodulator treatment, the effects can last anywhere from 3 to 4 months and one treatment can cost approximately $250 – $600.

Although injectables are not as invasive and labor intensive as surgical lifts, they still pose risks. Please take caution when choosing your performing injector. Brow shaping is more of an art than a skill. It is crucial to receive injections only from a skilled and certified specialist as there is a true art to non-surgical enhancement. If over injected, neuromodulators can create a frozen or surprised look.

You can pluck and wax all you want, but if skin is lax and droopy, you will never be able to attain the most flattering brow shape without aesthetic intervention by neuromodulators or surgical excision .
