Areas You Didn’t Know Could Be Treated with Liposuction

By Dr. James White

While many fitness enthusiasts may be mislead into believing certain exercises can spot reduce fat, the fact is that liposuction is the only proven way to remove and target fat in a specific area. Many fatty deposits cannot be touched by exercises.

Let’s consider a common trouble area like the midsection. While abdominal exercises will strengthen and build stomach muscles, such efforts cannot guarantee fat loss of that specific area. Liposuction, however, actually removes the fat cells of the stubborn, trouble area permanently. With that said, liposuction should not be used as a weight loss tool.

Liposculpture is designed to address fatty deposits that are not responsive despite diet, exercise and a patient attaining their ideal body weight. In fact, the best candidate for this procedure is a healthy individual with localized collections of fat which persist despite diet and exercise. First comes the diet and exercise and then liposuction. Those who are at or close to their recommended body weight derive the greatest benefit from this procedure. Ideal candidates posses a body mass index (BMI) of 21 – 25; although an individual with a BMI of 26 – 30 is still a good candidate.

While we typically think “saddle bags” and “muffin tops” when referring to liposuction, there are many other trouble areas that are ideal for this procedure. Here are some trouble areas which respond well to liposuction which you may not have yet considered.

1.Bra Fat

Even lean, physically fit patients struggle with fatty deposits in the mid back which are further enhanced when pressure from a bra or bikini top is applied. Of course, you could just wear looser, less supportive garments, but then you are vulnerable to sagging breasts and poor posture. Liposuction is a great solution for this condition.

2. Jaw line

With the “selfie” invasion, the double chin has become a very common area of concern for many. Liposuction surgery can be performed to remove fatty deposits under the chin and on the jawline. It is a relatively simple and straightforward procedure that only takes 30 minutes to an hour to perform and can work wonders for the contour of the face.

3. Breasts

The potential for scarring can leave many breast reduction candidates unwilling to undergo invasive breast reduction surgical procedures. For those with decent skin quality, liposuction can serve as a “scarless” means to reduce mass of the breasts.
