Ear Surgery in Chattanooga
While heavy, chandelier earrings and gauges are trendy, they can inflict damage to earlobes. Luckily, we offer simple and relatively affordable earlobe repair solutions.
When earlobes are simply stretched and unable to properly support earrings, dermal fillers can be used to plump the earlobe. Simple tears of the earlobe are straight forward. Local anesthetic is injected into the earlobe and surrounding tissues. The section of extra tissue, scar or stretched piercing is removed entirely. The two halves are then reconnected and approximated with fine sutures with reset of the earlobe to a more natural position/shape. Click here to read more about earlobe repair and reduction.
Otoplasty, better known as ear surgery, involves the “pinning back” of the ears. It is best suited for over-developed or protruding ears and can be performed on children as young as six years of age.
Because over-developed or protruding ears can create serious insecurities, the issue should be addressed early on.
This procedure is most commonly performed under general anesthesia and involves either the folding or removal of excess cartilage on the back of the ear. Typically, the surgery is completed within a few hours.
Otoplasty (Ear Surgery) Recovery
While recovering, bruising is present for up to three weeks. However, normal activities can commence after approximately three days. Minimal pain is expected and can be managed by the pain medication your cosmetic surgeon may choose to prescribe. Otoplasty patients should refrain from strenuous actives for 3 to 6 weeks.
