Cosmetic Surgery : No longer reserved for the rich and famous
Traditionally, the term cosmetic surgery conjured a stigma associated with wealth, extravagance and stardom. For many, it probably still does, but , according to a poll conducted by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery , it is time to dispel this inaccurate stereotype as the average cosmetic surgery patient is becoming increasingly mainstream. Cosmetic surgery is no longer reserved for the rich and famous.
A poll commissioned by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery found:
- 48% of poll participants with an income of $25K and under approve of cosmetic surgery
- 52% of participants with an income between $25K-$50K approve
- 55% of participants with an income between $50K-$75K approve
- 62% of participants with an income above $75K approve
- 23% of the participants who earn under $25K would consider cosmetic surgery for themselves
“Even in this difficult economic time, people are willing to invest in the things that improve their quality of life,” said Renato Saltz, MD, President of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. “Feeling good about the way they look is high on the list of priorities for many Americans.” (surgery.org)
Cosmetic Surgery Financing
It is probable that the integration of cosmetic surgery into the middle-class is due in part to the availability of financing. Patients no longer have to wait and save for surgical costs. Financing programs like CareCredit, offered at our practice in Chattanooga, Tennesseee, allow patients to fit cosmetic procedures into a monthly budget. It works like a typical credit card.
Just as many of us pay monthly gym or salon fees, patients can essentially pay a monthly fee to receive procedures such as tummy tuck, breast augmentation, Botox or facelift which can instantly transform their appearance.
Advances in technology continue to bring forth more options to cosmetic patients. Our cosmetic surgeons offer a variety of minimally invasive and affordable services. Whether it be injectable fillers like Perlane or Radiesse to address deflated facial features, or Dysport injections to treat frown lines and crow’s feet, before resorting to surgical intervention, our surgeons strive to resolve patient concerns through non-surgical approaches. Thanks to years of research and development, the modern cosmetic patient has an abundance of options.
